A specialist in Yazidi affairs, says that through the Kurdistan Regional Government, thousands of Yazidi captives have been rescued from ISIS hands. She calls for more efforts to be made to uncover the fate of the captives.
On Wednesday, August 21, 2024, Dr. Nagham Nawzad, a specialist in Yazidi affairs and therapist for rescued girls and women, told Sama: “Yazidi captives are still in the hands of ISIS terrorists. The Iraqi government has not taken any serious steps or formed committees to rescue them. The only party that has taken responsibility for rescuing the captives is the Kurdistan Regional Government alone.”
She also said: “The Office for Rescuing Abductees in the Kurdistan Region has played a good and important role in rescuing Yazidi captives. We hope they continue their efforts.”
On August 3, 2014, after the occupation of Sinjar by ISIS terrorists, 6,417 Yazidis including girls, women, men, and children were captured and sold in markets, with girls and women being subjected to buying and selling.
According to the latest statistics from the Office for Rescuing Abductees, 3,576 Yazidi captives have been rescued, while 2,601 people remain missing and unaccounted for.
