The process of registering displaced persons’ information for national ID cards has commenced in the camps. A member of the Party faction has stated that information for approximately 100 displaced individuals will be registered daily.
Vian Dakhil, a member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party faction in the Iraqi Parliament, announced in a press statement on Monday, December 16, 2024, that the registration of displaced people’s details for national ID cards began today in the camps.
Dakhil explained that the process initially started in the Sharia camp, located along the border of Duhok Governorate, and will subsequently continue in other camps. She added, “In cooperation with the Directorate of Citizenship and Passports of Duhok Governorate, the information of around 100 displaced individuals will be recorded daily for national ID cards.”
Regarding the implementation process, the Party faction member explained that a team consisting of representatives from various institutions is registering the names and complete details of the displaced persons. After two days of information registration, the displaced individuals will need to visit the General Directorate of Citizenship and Passports in Duhok to have their fingerprints taken. Following an additional 10-day period, the national ID cards will be issued and delivered to the camps.
In previous years, displaced persons living in camps within the borders of Duhok Governorate had to travel to Sinjar to obtain their national ID cards.
