MP Vian Dakhil met today with Mr. Mohammed Al-Hassan, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in Iraq and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), in a meeting that addressed several priority issues—foremost among them the file of the displaced members of the Yazidi community, which formed a central focus of the discussion.

The meeting included discussions on the conditions of Yazidi survivors, as well as the ongoing challenges hindering their dignified return to their areas of origin in Sinjar and the Nineveh Plains. These challenges include security conditions, lack of basic services, and the non-implementation of agreements concerning these areas.

In this context, the “Sinjar Agreement,” signed in October 2020, was also discussed. MP Dakhil stressed that the implementation of this agreement continues to face clear obstacles, emphasizing the need for effective UN intervention to support the execution of its terms and to create suitable conditions for the return of the displaced and the stabilization of their communities.

For his part, Mr. Mohammed Al-Hassan expressed deep interest in the Yazidi file, affirming that this issue is one of the main priorities of his mission in Iraq. He added that UNAMI is closely following this matter and working in coordination with the relevant authorities to overcome obstacles to restoring life in Sinjar and the affected areas.

At the end of the meeting, MP Vian Dakhil expressed her sincere thanks and appreciation to Mr. Al-Hassan, valuing his cooperation, interest, and readiness to coordinate and work jointly in a manner that promotes justice, restores hope to devastated areas, and contributes to empowering Iraqi communities to reclaim their lives and legitimate rights.
