The head of the High Committee of the Lalish Cultural and Social Center has announced that Sama Channel will soon commence broadcasting. This new platform aims to share the message of Yezidism with audiences across Kurdistan, Iraq, and the world.
On Monday, July 22, 2024, Saeed Jerdo, Chairman of the High Committee of Lalish Cultural and Social Center in Duhok, stated to Sama: “For years, one of the dreams of the Lalish Center was to establish a TV channel under the policies and laws of the Kurdistan Regional Government. This channel, dedicated to all aspects of life, is now becoming a reality. With the direct support of Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, we have begun acquiring all the necessary resources for the launch of Sama Channel, which belongs to the Lalish Cultural and Social Center. This includes constructing the channel headquarters, acquiring the necessary equipment, and preparing a young and experienced staff of Yezidi men and women.”
Jerdo revealed that the logo for Sama TV will be unveiled soon, signaling the imminent start of the channel’s broadcasting. The channel aims to convey the hopes, demands, pain, suffering, history, geography, and culture of the Yezidi people.
He added: “Sama Channel will act as a bridge between us and all religions and nationalities, strengthening the spirit of brotherhood and mutual acceptance. We hope that everyone in this country will see themselves reflected through our screen.”
The head of Lalish emphasized that the Sama Channel will be a platform to showcase the bright face of Yezidism to Kurdistan, Iraq, and the world.
For the first time in history, a Yezidi channel called Sama is being established with the support of the Kurdistan Regional Government, specifically for the Yezidi community. The Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government has consistently shown a commitment to addressing the suffering of the Yezidi Kurds, making numerous decisions in their favor.
