International Conference on Ezidis to Be Held at the University of Duhok

Sema

Later this month, the University of Duhok will host a major international conference focused on Ezidi religion, culture, history, and geography. Titled “Ezidis: Religion, Culture – History and Geography,” the event will take place on April 29–30, 2025, and is expected to be the largest of its kind.

Saeed Jardo, head of the Lalish Cultural and Social Foundation in Duhok, told Sama that preparations are nearly complete. The conference is being organized with the support and supervision of Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani.

The Lalish Foundation, in cooperation with the College of Humanities at the University of Duhok, has made thorough preparations. According to Jardo, numerous local and international researchers, academics, and writers will participate. Over the two-day conference, they will present new ideas and insights related to the Ezidi community’s past, present, and future.

This conference is of great importance to Ezidis everywhere. It serves as a space for dialogue on the challenges facing the community and efforts to preserve Ezidi identity, culture, and language—especially in the wake of recent tragic events.

Such gatherings also strengthen ties between Ezidis in the region and those in the diaspora, helping maintain a unified and resilient community across borders.

For the international community, the conference offers an opportunity to gain deeper understanding of the Ezidis and raise awareness about their unique heritage and current challenges. It is a vital step toward protecting the rights and future of this ancient people.
