Dr. Vian Dakhil Submits Ezidi IDP Case to United Nations

Sema

Vian Dakhil, spokesperson for the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) parliamentary bloc in the Iraqi Parliament, stated that it is unfortunate that the Iraqi government, despite the genocide of the Ezidis and 11 years of displacement, has provided no assistance. For the past six months, internally displaced persons (IDPs) have not received their food rations. As a result, we have submitted the IDP file to the United Nations.

Dakhil told that the situation in the IDP camps is dire. After the genocide they suffered, the Ezidis have now been displaced for 11 years. She emphasized that the Iraqi government is responsible and must fulfill its obligations and address this case with a humanitarian perspective. She noted:
“I personally submitted the file of displaced Ezidis to the United Nations. They have shown great concern. For 11 years, we have been demanding solutions, but the Iraqi government has chosen silence, taking no stance and offering no support to the displaced, who continue to live in terrible conditions.”

She added:
“The annual budget for the Iraqi Ministry of Migration and Displacement is 350 billion Iraqi dinars, allocated specifically to serve IDPs, provide for their needs, renovate the camps, and supply food. Yet, IDPs have not received their food rations for six months. Despite having a budget, the ministry and the government remain silent and inactive. We have made several attempts to summon the Minister of Migration to question them in parliament, but unfortunately, some Iraqi parties have blocked these efforts. Therefore, we will take the matter to court and present evidence of the suffering of the IDPs and the lack of any assistance provided to them.”

She further clarified:
“In Iraq, there is no real attention paid to the IDPs, especially the Ezidis, who have suffered immensely. Even their small monthly compensation of four million dinars has not been provided. That’s why we are taking the Yazidi issue to the international community – countries that respect human rights and care about justice – in the hope of finding a solution. Sadly, as elections approach, the Iraqi government is prioritizing election propaganda over aiding the displaced.”
