Today, Thursday, September 10, 2026, Rebar Ahmed, Minister of Interior of the Kurdistan Regional Government, highlighted several sensitive issues between Erbil and Baghdad, including the implementation of the Sinjar Agreement.
The Interior Minister addressed the complex situation in Sinjar district, stating that the Sinjar Agreement is the best solution to the problems facing the area. He called on the institutions of the federal government to take swift and practical steps to implement the provisions of the agreement.
Rebar Ahmed said: “What matters to us is not the titles of the agreement, but the implementation of its provisions,” including normalizing the situation, restoring stability, removing armed forces from the city, handing over security responsibilities to the local police, appointing a new district administrator, and providing public services.
The Interior Minister strongly rejected the appointment of a military district administrator, describing it as “the worst option.” He stressed that the solution should be reached through a political and administrative agreement involving the Nineveh Provincial Council, the Governor of Nineveh, and political parties, in order to establish a new administration capable of restoring public services and reconstruction efforts in Sinjar.
