A counselor of the Yazidi Spiritual Council, Khalid Narmo, has announced that the Yazidis will submit a memorandum in coordination with the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) to both the new Syrian government and international organizations, including the United Nations. This decision was made in light of recent political developments in Syria, where a transitional government is in the process of formation.
On January 11, 2025, the Supreme Spiritual Council of Yazidis held its regular meeting under the supervision of Mir Hazim Tahsin Beg, the Prince of Yazidis, and issued several decisions to serve the Yazidi community.
Khalid Narmo, advisor to the Supreme Spiritual Council of Yazidis, spoke to Sama, stating: “Due to recent changes and work towards forming a transitional government in Damascus, along with other developments in the region, the Spiritual Council has decided to issue a statement supporting Syrian Yazidis. This statement will outline their demands and proposals for the new Syria, and it will be published soon.”
He further revealed: “A committee will be formed to follow up on the situation of Syrian Yazidis, led by the Yazidi Prince. This committee will consult with Syrian Yazidi personalities to prepare a memorandum that will be delivered to the responsible parties in the government and the authorities in power, such as the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in Yazidi-populated areas, other relevant parties, consulates, and international organizations in the Kurdistan Region. The goal is to establish Yazidi rights as a religious minority and ensure the right of religious citizenship in Syria.”
Narmo also emphasized that all efforts are being made in coordination with the Kurdistan Regional Government, which, as an official institution within Iraq’s framework, provides diplomatic support to the Yazidis. This collaboration ensures that the efforts to secure Yazidi rights are backed by a recognized government and have a broader international dimension.
