The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has achieved a significant milestone by reintegrating over 12,000 children into the education system this year. This effort was spearheaded by the Minister of Education, Alan Hama Saeed, who announced the accomplishment during a recent briefing.
“With the support of UNICEF, Barzani Charity Foundation, PAW, NRC, Intersos Humanitarian Organization, and Kurdistan Save the Children’s Fund, we have conducted an intensive field campaign over the past five years,” Minister Alan Hama Saeed stated.
He reported that for the 2023-2024 academic year alone, 12,334 children who had previously been separated from the education system have been brought back to school.
Highlighting the broader impact of these efforts, Saeed noted, “Throughout the ninth cabinet, we have successfully returned a total of 26,384 children to school. This significant achievement was the result of meticulous planning. We ensured that the ministry, teachers, and all individuals involved did not just focus on those who had left the education process but also took serious steps to reintegrate them.”
Mr. Saeed also mentioned that many of these children had been excluded from education prior to this cabinet, with some being placed in extraordinary education programs due to their age and the gaps in their formal education.
