There are many domes and shrines in the temple of Lalish. The dome is a conical building resting on a square base, symbolizing the four directions or some people say it represents the four seasons. Above it is a building with seven corners, symbolizing the seven angels. Above it is a circular building, symbolizing the spherical shape of the Earth.
Above it is the conical building, which is in the shape of a beam and is called the shakhas. Twelve elders (Rays) (Zenj) converge at the top of a semicircular building representing the disk of the sun. At the top rests what the Yazidis call “the crescent.” It is made up of three balls of different sizes, symbolizing the three divine persons. Pieces of colored fabric with equal sides, of different colors, are connected to the crescent. The solar spectrum symbolizes the soul.
