With the support of the German government, a monument to honor the Yazidi genocide will be established in Germany, and two committees have been created to oversee the project.
In response to ongoing requests from various Yazidi groups and in line with the German Parliament’s decision on November 16, 2023, the Parliament approved the creation of a symbol for the Yazidi genocide in Germany.
Dr. Irfan Ortaj, the head of the Yazidi Art Center in Germany, shared with Sema that representatives from 26 Yazidi organizations met two days ago to discuss the construction of the genocide monument. Dr. Ortaj also noted that all Yazidi organizations agreed on the memorial’s establishment, and two committees have been set up to manage and implement the project.
On January 19, 2023, the German Parliament formally recognized the genocide of the Yazidis. On August 3, 2014, the terrorist group ISIS attacked the Shingal region, committing genocide against its inhabitants, resulting in the deaths of hundreds, with thousands kidnapped and displaced.
To date, over 18 countries and international organizations have recognized the Yazidi genocide.
