Statement from the Kurdish National Council (Regarding its Withdrawal from the Syrian Opposition Coalition and the Negotiation Committee)

Sema

In light of the political changes currently taking place in Syria, and after years of joint work within the Syrian National Coalition of Syrian Revolution and Opposition Forces, the Kurdish National Council feels compelled to clarify the following:

The Coalition was established as a political framework aimed at achieving the aspirations of the Syrian people for change and the overthrow of the dictatorial regime, and it received widespread international recognition. Based on this, the Kurdish National Council joined the Coalition under a document that included a clear vision for Syria’s future and a commitment to working towards a just solution to the Kurdish issue within a comprehensive national framework.

Over the years, the Council participated in the Coalition’s activities and events, and was a member of the Syrian Negotiation Committee, which was formed under UN Security Council Resolution 2254, as well as in the Geneva talks, the Constitutional Committee, and all other negotiation tracks. It also worked to enhance the national dimension of the Kurdish issue through various political frameworks. However, this experience has been accompanied by disagreements on fundamental issues. Despite these differences, the Council remained committed to defending the interests of our people through a balanced vision of cooperation, constructive criticism, and calls for an end to violations.

In light of recent developments, after the fall of the bloody dictatorial regime and the disappearance of the role of both the Coalition and the Negotiation Committee at this stage, the Council announces its withdrawal from both bodies. It emphasizes the necessity of developing political work according to a new vision that aligns with current changes, coordinating and working with all national forces regarding Syria’s future, and ensuring the constitutional rights of our Kurdish people and all components of the Syrian people. The Council reaffirms its commitment to continued joint work at both the Kurdish and national Syrian levels to achieve the aspirations of the Syrian people for freedom, justice, and democracy.
