Mahama Khalil: Harsh Winter Conditions Reveal the Neglect Suffered by Shingal District

MP Mahama Khalil pointed out that the harsh winter conditions reveal the extent of neglect faced by Shingal district.

In a statement, Khalil said: “As the snow falls and Mount Shingal is covered in a beautiful white coat that enhances the natural landscape, we see in this scene a symbol of divine generosity and joy that brings good to the people. However, this winter scene hides another form of suffering faced by our people in Shingal, who are enduring extreme cold with a severe lack of basic life necessities and essential services.”

He added: “These harsh conditions reveal the extent of neglect in the district, where displaced families returning to their homes are still waiting for the long-delayed return grants. Meanwhile, the people are facing a major shortage of white kerosene, which is essential to cope with the extreme cold, in addition to the significant weakness in infrastructure and basic services that make life even harder under these difficult circumstances.”

Khalil continued: “We remind the central government and the concerned authorities of their duties toward the people of Shingal and urge them to expedite the disbursement of returnees’ entitlements, ensure fair distribution of white kerosene, and work seriously to rehabilitate the infrastructure to provide a decent life for the people of the district who have endured many hardships and challenges.”

He further said: “We call on international organizations and humanitarian agencies to provide urgent assistance to the people of Shingal, who are living under exceptional and harsh conditions. Support at this critical time is a humanitarian and moral responsibility that cannot be delayed.”

Khalil concluded: “The people of Shingal deserve a better life, and as representatives of the Iraqi people and of Shingal with all its components, we will not stop demanding our people’s rights until justice is served and we move toward real development for this district, which has made sacrifices, endured hardships, and paid a heavy price for its freedom and dignity.”
