Mahama Khalil addressing the Iraqi government: Great injustice to Shingal and Qahtaniyah… Only 14 projects out of 94

The Iraqi Parliament Member, Mahma Khalil, called on the Iraqi Prime Minister on Saturday, March 15, 2025, to form an investigative committee to determine the reasons behind the injustice faced by the city of Sinjar and the town of Qahtaniya. Out of 94 projects allocated to the Sinjar Reconstruction Fund, only 14 projects were granted to Sinjar and Qahtaniya.

In a statement posted on his Facebook page, Member of Parliament Mahma Khalil said: “Despite the success of our efforts in establishing the Sinjar Reconstruction Fund, the fund’s projects have been scattered across several areas, with the Prime Minister announcing projects for Sinjar and the Nineveh Plain. We were previously concerned about these actions, and now it has become clear that our fears were justified, which has led to our patience running out and our frustration growing. There is no longer room for silence, especially after it became evident that the low percentage of projects allocated does not match the scale of the suffering and deprivation experienced by Sinjar and Qahtaniya, as well as the extent of damage, poverty levels, and population density.”

“Out of 94 projects allocated to the Sinjar Reconstruction Fund, only 14 projects were granted to Sinjar and Qahtaniya, which is a significant injustice to these two areas that bore the brunt of terrorism, destruction, and marginalization. It has become clear to us that there are many promises without implementation, making the lands of Sinjar and Qahtaniya a symbol of unjust treatment.”

“Therefore, we appeal to the Prime Minister to form investigative committees with all responsible officials to determine the reasons, as well as to investigate the local government in Nineveh. For our part, we will open this file in the parliament, and we will invite all responsible officials to shed light on the causes of the injustice and oppression faced by Sinjar and Qahtaniya.”

“We also demand that the local government in Nineveh form a committee to identify those responsible for this injustice against Sinjar and Qahtaniya, which are among the most affected areas due to terrorist operations and military errors. These areas are still 85% destroyed, yet no projects have been listed for them, despite having their share in the Sinjar Reconstruction Fund.”

“We appeal to the Prime Minister, who cares deeply for Sinjar and its people, to lift the injustice and consider the degree of deprivation and damage, in order to normalize the situation and heal the wounds in Sinjar and Qahtaniya.”
