PM Barzani on Women’s Day: Commitment to Equality Stands Firm

On the occasion of March 8, Kurdistan Region’s Prime Minister Masrour Barzani extended his congratulations to the women of Kurdistan and the world in honor of International Women’s Day, recognizing their pivotal role in the development and progress of the Kurdistan Region.
In his message, he paid tribute to the resilience, courage, and sacrifices of Kurdish women, emphasizing their unwavering contributions to Kurdish history and national identity.
Prime Minister Barzani expressed deep respect for the struggles and efforts of Kurdish women throughout history. “We have great respect and appreciation for the struggle, efforts, and prominent role of Kurdish women in the history of the people of Kurdistan, who have always been examples of patriotism, courage, sacrifice, and dedication,” he stated.
From leading revolutions to defending Kurdish rights, Kurdish women have consistently played a crucial role in shaping the nation’s destiny.
PM Barzani highlighted the increasing presence and influence of women in the political, administrative, and social institutions of the Kurdistan Region. “It is a pleasure that today women in the Kurdistan Region have a prominent and effective role in the institutions of the Kurdistan Region,” he noted, underscoring the importance of fostering greater gender equality and enhancing opportunities for Kurdish women in all sectors.
In his message, the Prime Minister reaffirmed the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) commitment to strengthening women’s rights, ensuring gender equality, and combating violence and discrimination against women. “We are committed to further creating equal opportunities for Kurdish women and increasing their participation rate and level in various fields of administration, as well as confronting all forms of violence and discrimination against women,” he emphasized.
The KRG has taken significant steps in recent years to enhance legal protections for women, promote their inclusion in governance, and support initiatives aimed at improving women’s education, employment, and social standing. However, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani acknowledged that continued efforts are needed to overcome existing challenges and achieve full gender parity.
Concluding his message, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani wished continued progress and success to the women of Kurdistan and beyond, stating: “Happy March 8th, and I wish further progress for the women of Kurdistan.”
As the world marks International Women’s Day, the Prime Minister’s message serves as a reminder of the resilience of Kurdish women and the ongoing efforts to ensure gender equality and social justice in the Kurdistan Region.
