Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani is set to welcome Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al-Sudani at Erbil International Airport today, Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 11:00 AM.

According to Iraqi government spokesperson Bassem Al-Awadi, the visit comes within the framework of continued “communication and dialogue on important matters” between the federal government in Baghdad and the Kurdistan Region. The trip highlights Baghdad’s ongoing efforts to strengthen cooperation and address shared challenges through direct engagement with KRG leadership.

During his visit, Prime Minister Al-Sudani will hold meetings with PM Barzani and other senior officials in Erbil to review a range of pressing issues. Al-Awadi stated that the discussions will include “consultations and review of common issues considering current domestic and regional developments,” signaling a broad and potentially impactful agenda.

This marks Al-Sudani’s fifth visit to the Kurdistan Region since taking office, reflecting the importance both sides place on regular dialogue. His last trip to Erbil was on November 13, 2024, where he met with both KRG President Nechirvan Barzani and PM Masrour Barzani. That visit focused heavily on resolving the KRG’s salary crisis and emphasized separating economic concerns from broader political disputes.

Today’s talks are expected to touch on long-standing points of contention, including the KRG’s financial entitlements, the sharing of oil revenues, and coordination on security matters—issues that have long shaped the relationship between Erbil and Baghdad.

With ongoing budget disagreements and regional instability, political observers see this visit as a significant step in maintaining constructive dialogue and seeking durable solutions to complex challenges.
