The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General in Iraq and Head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) visited Member of Parliament Vian Dakhil today, Friday.
During the meeting, they discussed several important issues concerning the overall situation in the country, particularly the status of Iraq’s components and minorities, with a special focus on the Ezidi community.
The meeting also highlighted the significant role played by Mr. Mohamed El Hassan in supporting humanitarian causes and defending minority rights, especially those of the Ezidis. He expressed deep interest and profound understanding of the suffering of this community, as he had also emphasized in his recent address to the United Nations Security Council.
MP Dakhil stated:
“His visit today gave us a strong motivation to continue our efforts in serving the Ezidi cause. It was a moral boost and a reminder that we are not alone—that there are voices supporting us on the international stage.”
She added:
“We also discussed the challenges facing the Ezidi people, whether those still in displacement camps or those who have returned to their areas of origin. Many continue to face significant obstacles in their pursuit of a normal and safe life.”
She concluded by saying:
“We deeply appreciate this visit, which we consider a sign of hope and solidarity with our just cause. We place great value on the continued cooperation and support from the United Nations through the UNAMI mission.”
