UN Goodwill Ambassador and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Nadia Murad announced that she had asked the Colombian president to recognize the genocide committed against the Ezidis.
Nadia Murad wrote on her Facebook page on Friday (21 November 2025) that she met with the President of the Republic of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, to discuss her work with survivors of sexual violence and to explore avenues of cooperation through international institutions and the United Nations.
She added:
“During our conversation, I spoke with the President about the genocide and the systematic acts of sexual violence committed by ISIS against the Ezidi community. I asked the President to recognize the Ezidi genocide and to join the countries that have taken this important step.”
Nadia Murad stressed that “this recognition is fundamental to advancing justice and accountability for the survivors and for the families who are still fighting for justice and redress.”
