Sema

Units of the Syrian Arab Army entered Al-Hol camp in the countryside of Hasakah early Wednesday, January 21, 2026, following the withdrawal of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) from the area.

Al-Hol camp is the largest settlement housing families of ISIS fighters in the region. According to AFP, Syrian government forces have taken control of the camp, which is home to around 24,000 people living under complex security and humanitarian conditions.

The camp reportedly includes about 15,000 Syrians, as well as approximately 6,300 foreign women and children from 42 different nationalities, including European citizens. These families belong to ISIS members and were gathered in the camp after the group lost territorial control.

This development brings renewed attention to the situation at Al-Hol camp and the fate of the residents, raising questions about how the new authorities will manage the camp and its inhabitants.
