On April 5, 2026, the Supreme Judicial Council announced that the Karkh Criminal Court issued a death sentence against a member of ISIS for participating in terrorist crimes targeting security forces and civilians.
The convict, along with his group, committed heinous crimes in Sinjar district in 2014, including the kidnapping of Ezidi women and the killing of men, with the aim of undermining security and stability in the country and spreading fear among citizens to achieve terrorist objectives.
The ruling was issued based on provisions of Article 4/1 in conjunction with Articles 2/1, 2/3, and 2/8 of the Anti-Terrorism Law No. 13 of 2005, as well as Article 7 (First) of the Ezidi Survivors Law No. 8 of 2021.
