The opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup is scheduled to take place on June 11 between Mexico and South Africa at the Azteca Stadium.

This year’s tournament features 48 national teams divided into 12 groups, all competing for football’s most prestigious trophy.

Among the participating nations is Germany, which will play its opening match on June 14 against Curaçao in the United States.

For the first time in history, an Ezidi player will take part in the FIFA World Cup. That player is German international footballer Deniz Undav.

Deniz Undav is of Ezidi origin, with family roots in the city of Riha (Urfa) in Northern Kurdistan, and currently resides in Germany.

He is one of the standout players for German club Stuttgart, having scored 25 goals for the club this season. Undav plays as a forward and is regarded as one of the team’s key attacking players.
