President Masoud Barzani released a message on the 10th anniversary of the Yazidi genocide, stating that the Yazidi genocide is a wound on the body of the people of Kurdistan.
The text of President Barzani’s message:
In the name of the great and merciful God
The Sinjar genocide and the crime that ISIS terrorists committed against our Yazidi brothers and sisters 10 years ago is a wound on the body of the people of Kurdistan. This crime is similar to and a continuation of the genocides, mass killings, and crimes that have been committed against the people of Kurdistan throughout history. Our Yazidi brothers and sisters were subjected to the brutality of ISIS criminals and were genocided because of their Kurdish identity and religious beliefs.
On the tenth anniversary of this tragedy, we send our greetings to the souls of the martyrs and victims of this crime, we send our greetings to the souls of those heroic Peshmerga who sacrificed their blood to break the siege of Mount Sinjar and liberate the city of Sinjar, and who brought the brutal ISIS to its knees before our Yazidi brothers and sisters and avenged this injustice from the terrorists.
On this painful anniversary, we reaffirm that we will support the rights and demands of our Yazidi brothers and sisters and the residents of the Sinjar region with all our capabilities. The agreement between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Iraqi government to normalize the situation in Sinjar must be implemented, and the illegal and abnormal situation that has been unjustly imposed on the people of that region for ten years must come to an end. Those who use the pain and suffering of Sinjar for political purposes, self-imposition, and complicating the situation in Sinjar must be stopped, and our Yazidi brothers and sisters of Sinjar must be allowed to return to their homes with dignity and live in peace and tranquility.
