At Lalish Temple, dozens of volunteers serve daily, and they ask visitors to cooperate and maintain the cleanliness of this holy place.
Marwan Alubi, one of the volunteers at Lalish Temple, told Sama: “Daily, Yazidis from all Yazidi regions and from abroad come to Lalish to visit, pray, and make wishes. About 500 volunteers work every day, during eids and events, to clean the temple.”
Alubi added: “Lalish volunteers are divided into groups, and most of them are ready on Wednesdays and Fridays because many of them are employees and don’t always have time. We also ask people to cooperate with the volunteers, not to litter, and to constantly maintain cleanliness.”
Lalish is the holy temple of the Yazidis, located in Lalish Valley, 9 kilometers from Sheikhan district. Many religious eids and ceremonies are held in Lalish every year.
Many elements inside the temple have deep meanings, such as the seven pillars, each representing one of the seven main angels of the Yazidi faith. Yazidis from within the country and abroad come to Lalish daily for pilgrimage, which is a religious duty for them.
Lalish is not only a religious site but also an important center for Yazidi culture and antiquities.
