Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani declared his party’s victory in Sunday’s parliamentary elections after garnering nearly double the tally of the runner up.
“They couldn’t,” Barzani said in a short post on X, referring to the rival Patriotic Union of Kurdistan’s (PUK) slogan during the election campaign which vowed to “crumble” the government. The PUK earned the second-most votes in the long-awaited election.
“Thanks to God, and the support and trust of the people, we are victorious,” the Kurdistan Democratic Party’s (KDP) second deputy added.
