A Yazidi parliamentarian has placed full responsibility for the daily incidents occurring on the Sinjar-Tal Afar road on the General Roads and Bridges Administration of Nineveh and the local government, due to the road’s deterioration and lack of maintenance.
Mahma Khalil, a member of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, announced in a statement that these incidents have claimed the lives of thousands of innocent people from Sinjar. He also pointed out that, despite the existence of financial approvals allocated for the maintenance of this important road, there is continuous avoidance of implementation and significant negligence by these parties toward their duty to protect citizens’ lives.
The Iraqi Council of Representatives member stated: “This road has become a symbol of the ‘death road’ rather than a lifeline serving the people of the region.”
He added: “In the name of those who were martyred on this road and in the name of the oppressed people of Sinjar, I demand that maintenance and renovation work on the road be carried out quickly to ensure the safety of its users.”
He also emphasized that saving innocent lives is not only a moral responsibility but also a legal and humanitarian duty that should not be neglected or ignored.
