Baghdad Hosts 34th Arab League Summit Amid Gaza Strikes
Baghdad is hosting the 34th Arab League Summit on Saturday, amid ongoing Israeli airstrikes on Gaza, where the humanitarian crisis continues to worsen. The summit also follows a Gulf tour by U.S. President Donald Trump, who reiterated his desire to “take control” of the Gaza Strip.
The streets of the Iraqi capital—now enjoying relative stability after four decades of conflict and war, like many other cities in the country—were decorated with the flags of the 22 Arab nations.
This summit coincides with significant regional changes, including the efforts of Syria’s transitional government led by Ahmad Al-Sharaa to open a new chapter with the Arab world and the West. Meanwhile, the Gaza war is seen as weakening Iran and its allies, even as nuclear negotiations continue between Washington and Tehran.
