The Fifth Middle East Peace and Security Conference (MEPS 2024) is set to begin on Friday, Nov. 22, 2024, at the American University of Kurdistan in Duhok.

The three-day conference, running through Sunday, Nov. 24, will feature prominent Kurdish leaders including President Masoud Barzani, Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani, Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) Prime Minister Masrour Barzani, Interior Minister Reber Ahmed, and various other government and party officials.

Dr. Huner Issa, Director General of MEPS 2024, told that the conference is being held in partnership with prestigious institutions including Harvard University, Cambridge University, Atlantic Council, Wilton Park, and Crisis Response Council.

“The conference will bring together 124 academics from 40 different countries, with 73% participating for the first time,” Dr. Issa said. He added that the event will feature various panels and workshops focusing on current global and Middle Eastern affairs.

The conference has attracted numerous government and party officials from both inside and outside Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

MEPS24 has established itself as a significant regional forum for discussing peace and security issues in the Middle East.

Last year’s conference, held on Nov. 20, 2023, was memorable for an exchange between KRG Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, where traditional Kurdish honey and pomegranates were presented as gifts.

The conference has grown in international significance, as evidenced by its partnerships with leading global institutions and the increasing diversity of its participants.
