A member of the Iraqi Council of Representatives states: We call on all residents of Article 140 regions to return to their original areas to participate in the census.
On Saturday, November 16, 2024, Sherwan Duberdani, a member of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, announced that the failure of people from Article 140 regions to return to their original areas would result in an undercount in the population. This, in turn, would lead to a reduced allocation of the regional budget, fewer employment opportunities for their children, and limited access to essential services.
Duberdani also urged the people from the Article 140 regions, particularly those in the Zilkan sub-district, the foothills of Mount Maqlub, surrounding villages, and the districts of Sheikhan, Sinjar, and Kirkuk, to return to their homes.
He emphasized that participating in the census is crucial for securing the rights of residents and their children. It will ensure that a fair budget is allocated to their areas and provide much-needed services, including healthcare centers, schools, roads, and infrastructure development for the villages.
