PM Barzani emphasized the critical importance of enhancing cooperation and coordination between Peshmerga forces and the Iraqi Army to address security threats and challenges, particularly in Kurdish areas outside the Kurdistan Region’s administration.

Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani issued a condolence statement on Sunday, following the deadly explosion in Khurmatu that claimed the lives of several Peshmerga and Iraqi Army personnel.

“I extend my deepest condolences to the families of Colonel Saman Sabir Sliman, Commander of the Joint First Brigade Battalion, Colonel Mohammad Reza Karim, Engineering Officer of the Iraqi Army’s 9th Armored Division, and First Sergeant Sharif Ahmed Mohammad Amin, who were tragically martyred today in the Khurmatu area,” Prime Minister Barzani stated.

The Prime Minister prayed for the martyrs’ souls to rest in peace and wished comfort and solace to their families, friends, and fellow soldiers. He also expressed his hopes for a swift recovery of those wounded in the attack.

Prime Minister Barzani emphasized the critical importance of enhancing cooperation and coordination between Peshmerga forces and the Iraqi Army to address security threats and challenges, particularly in Kurdish areas outside the Kurdistan Region’s administration.

He stressed that such collaboration is essential for establishing and maintaining stability in these areas.

The IED blast in Khurmatu highlights the ongoing security challenges in territories between the Kurdistan Region and federal Iraq. These areas have historically been vulnerable to terrorist activities, particularly from ISIS remnants.

The joint operations between Peshmerga and Iraqi Army forces represent a crucial strategy in maintaining security and stability in these sensitive regions.

The incident underscores the continuing sacrifices made by both Peshmerga and Iraqi Army personnel in their joint efforts to combat terrorism and maintain regional security.
