The Governor of Duhok has emphasized that the Sharya complex will not be designated as a sub-district without the approval of its residents, asserting that “the demographics of the area will remain unchanged.”

During a press conference on Monday, November 18, 2024, Dr. Ali Tatar addressed the issue of converting the area into a sub-district. He explained: “Initially, the residents of Sharya requested the suspension of this decision, and it was halted in response to their request. Unfortunately, the community became divided, with one group renewing their demand for the conversion of the area into a sub-district, and this decision was ultimately enacted.”

Dr. Tatar reassured the public, saying: “We assure our people that no demographic changes will take place in Sharya. We will be visiting the residents shortly and will meet with them, ensuring that no action is taken without their approval.”

The Governor further emphasized: “We will not make or implement any decisions in any area without the consent of its residents. Moreover, the properties of the Yazidi community are safeguarded by law.”

Dr. Tatar concluded by noting that the Kurdistan Regional Government’s objective in establishing the sub-district is to improve service delivery to the residents and to implement essential development projects in the area.
