Damascus – In a press statement, the Syrian Yazidi Council announced the arrival of an official delegation to the capital, Damascus, on Friday. The delegation includes Ms. Mezkin Youssef, Chairwoman of the Syrian Yazidi Council, Mr. Sarhan Issa, the official spokesperson for the delegation, Dr. Nasser Hassan, the council’s representative in the Afrin region, and Mr. Jamil Jafar, a representative from Afrin.
The statement clarified that the delegation will hold a series of meetings with key figures in the new administration. Discussions will focus on the conditions of the Yazidis, who have long suffered from the hardships of war, displacement, and marginalization, as well as the challenges they faced under the previous regime and the years of conflict that significantly impacted their historical regions and presence.
The council emphasized that the goal of these meetings is to find practical and lasting solutions to protect Yazidi rights, ensure their dignified return to their historical regions, and strengthen their role in the country’s future. The delegation will also meet with various Syrian national components during this tour, aiming to foster dialogue and mutual cooperation among the diverse segments of Syrian society.
The council confirmed that details of the meetings and the results achieved will be published later.
It is worth noting that the Yazidis in Syria, like other communities, have endured great suffering during the years of war, including forced displacement, destruction of their villages and regions, and significant challenges to their cultural and religious identity.
