The Mayor of Sheikhan district has announced that progress on the dual carriageway project connecting Sheikhan to Lalish is well underway, with approximately 20% of the work completed so far.
This strategic project, spanning 8 kilometers and with a budget of 28 billion Iraqi dinars, was inaugurated late last year by His Excellency Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government.
On Saturday, January 20, 2025, Mayor Sardar Sheikh Yahya told Sema TV: “The dual carriageway project has progressed significantly, with work continuing tirelessly, day and night.” He further emphasized that, in accordance with the laws and regulations of the Kurdistan Regional Government, landowners affected by the project will be compensated for any damages incurred.
The Sheikhan-Lalish dual carriageway is a vital initiative aimed at improving travel for citizens, particularly to Lalish, and stands as one of the Regional Government’s key infrastructure projects.
