A new program for reconstructing Shingal has been announced after more than 10 years of infrastructure destruction in Shingal district, which was devastated by ISIS militant attacks in August 2014. Plans are to restart the reconstruction of the district. Nineveh Governor Abdulqadir Dakhil said: “We will begin a new step to rebuild Shingal district through a genuine program, with the support of Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani.” Note: Out of the 30 administrative units in Nineveh Governorate’s borders, in terms of reconstruction, good services have been provided by the Iraqi government, except for Shingal district, which continues to face difficult challenges. On 28/4/2016, the Iraqi Parliament voted that Sinjar is a destroyed city and would begin its reconstruction, but that decision remained suspended by the Iraqi government, and Sinjar was not rebuilt.
