“I hope that this blessed holiday becomes a cause for strengthened peace and stability, and further reinforces the values of coexistence, tolerance, and affection among all communities in the Kurdistan Region,” said PM Barzani.

Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani extended his warmest Easter greetings to Christians in Iraq and around the world on Saturday, expressing hopes for a joyful celebration and emphasizing the occasion as a moment to strengthen harmony, peace, and coexistence among all communities in the Kurdistan Region.

In a message shared on Saturday, to mark Easter, Barzani offered his heartfelt congratulations to Christian sisters and brothers in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and globally. “I hope you celebrate this holy occasion in happiness and joy,” he wrote, “and that it becomes a source of lasting peace, stability, and the deepening of the foundations of coexistence, diversity, and love among all components of the Kurdistan Region.”

The Prime Minister’s message read:“On the occasion of Easter, I extend my warmest congratulations to our Christian brothers and sisters in the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and across the world. I hope you celebrate this occasion in happiness and joy, and that this blessed holiday becomes a cause for strengthened peace and stability, and further reinforces the values of coexistence, tolerance, and affection among all communities in the Kurdistan Region. Happy Easter, and may you always live in prosperity.” — Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government.

Easter, known as Jazhni Hestanawa (the Feast of Resurrection) in Kurdish, is one of the holiest days for Christians, commemorating the resurrection of Jesus Christ. While the Christian community in Iraq has faced immense challenges over the past two decades—including displacement, violence, and the destruction of churches—many have found refuge and safety in the Kurdistan Region, which is known for its religious tolerance and cultural diversity.

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) has long emphasized peaceful coexistence among the various religious and ethnic groups living in the region, including Muslims, Christians, Yazidis, and others. PM Barzani’s consistent public recognition of Christian holidays and events reflects the KRG’s commitment to protecting minority rights and promoting inclusive governance.

Prime Minister Barzani’s Easter message aligns with his administration’s broader goals of social harmony, stability, and economic recovery in the face of ongoing regional and political challenges.
