Kurdish leader Masoud Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), on Monday welcomed renowned Kurdish poet Madhat Khidr Abdullah, widely known as Madhat Bekhaw, at his residence in Pirmam.
According to a statement from Barzani’s headquarters, the Kurdish leader inquired about Bekhaw’s health and praised his lifelong contributions to Kurdish literature, culture, and national identity.
Barzani highlighted Bekhaw’s influential role in the Kurdish literary and cultural movement, particularly through revolutionary and patriotic poetry that has left a lasting impact on the Kurdish struggle and identity.
He specifically referenced the poem “We are Peshmerga as long as we live”, authored by Bekhaw and famously performed by the celebrated Kurdish singer Fuad Ahmed.
Barzani noted that the poet’s work has played a key role in promoting nationalism and love for the homeland among the Peshmerga and the people of Kurdistan.
In addition to patriotic works, Bekhaw was commended for his efforts in developing poetry and songs for children in Kurdistan.
Barzani expressed his deep appreciation for Bekhaw’s dedication and wished him continued health and wellbeing.
