Prince Hazim Tahseen Saeed Commends UN Special Representative’s Briefing on the Plight of 100,000 Displaced Ezidis

Sema

His Highness Prince Hazim Tahseen Saeed, the Prince of the Ezidis in Iraq and around the world and Head of the Ezidi Supreme Spiritual Council, praised the recent briefing delivered by Dr. Mohammed Al-Hassan, the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, to the UN Security Council. The briefing highlighted the suffering of Ezidi internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the camps.

His Highness expressed strong support for Dr. Al-Hassan’s statement, particularly the following passage: “Creating sustainable conditions for return requires more coherent political, administrative, and security measures, as well as significant investment in employment opportunities and local services. The government must expedite the adoption of a comprehensive national plan for durable solutions. The return process cannot merely be about resettling people in a new location—it must be a meaningful process aimed at rebuilding lives, livelihoods, and hope for the future.”

Prince Hazim also commended another part of Dr. Al-Hassan’s address:

“I say this loudly—the Ezidis in Iraq have suffered immensely and indescribably at the hands of ISIS. We at the United Nations, through you and with your support, call on all concerned parties in Iraq (and neighboring countries) to take all necessary measures to protect this community and restore their dignity, respect, and rightful human status.”

He further highlighted Dr. Al-Hassan’s powerful words: “We believe it is essential to end this injustice against the indigenous Ezidi people of Iraq and ensure their dignified and honorable return to their homes and regions.”

Prince Hazim explained that this precise and responsible briefing followed Dr. Al-Hassan’s visit to the displacement camps and his reception at the Lalish Temple, where Ezidi leaders provided him with a comprehensive explanation of the situation and the atrocities committed against the Ezidis by ISIS on August 3, 2014.

He emphasized that such a statement—accurate, sincere, and reflecting a deep sense of humanitarian responsibility—demonstrates Dr. Al-Hassan’s diplomatic acumen and exceptional political insight.

Prince Hazim concluded by reaffirming the ongoing commitment to defending Ezidi rights at international, regional, and local levels, and to seeking justice for the victims. He underscored the determined effort to ensure that displaced Ezidis return to their homes with dignity and honor.
