More Than 40 shops were burned in a fire that broke out inside a Ezidi camp in Zakho

A fire broke out at dawn on Saturday at the Bajed Kandal camp, located in the Sihaila sub-district under the Independent Administration of Zakho, leading to the burning of more than 40 commercial shops, while civil defense teams continue their efforts to bring the fire under control.

According to information reported by Sema TV’s correspondent in Duhok, the fire erupted at around 4:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 27, 2025. Based on testimonies from camp residents, the fire was caused by an electrical short circuit and has so far resulted in the complete destruction of more than 40 shops along with their contents, with no human casualties reported.

Meanwhile, civil defense teams in Zakho are continuing their attempts to control the fire.

Bajed Kandal camp is home to more than one thousand families of displaced Ezidis who fled to the Kurdistan Region following the attack launched by ISIS on Sinjar.
