President Masoud Barzani on Monday issued a message marking the 11th anniversary of the defeat of the ISIS terrorist organization in the city of Kobanî, paying tribute to the heroic steadfastness of the fighters and the Peshmerga forces who thwarted terrorist plots and defended the dignity of the land.
In his message, President Barzani said: “On the 11th anniversary of the defeat of the terrorists in Kobanî, we extend our salutations to the brave fighters and Peshmerga who, with the support of the International Coalition and through their heroic defense, succeeded in preventing Kobanî from falling into the hands of ISIS terrorists.”
He added that this steadfastness was not merely a military battle, but rather “a great victory recorded in the history of the Kurdish people,” stressing that the impact of this victory was not limited to Kurdish geography alone. Instead, he described it as “a victory for all the people of Kurdistan and a triumph for all humanity over the forces of terrorism and darkness.”
These remarks come as part of the commemoration of the liberation of Kobanî, a city that has become a global symbol of resistance against extremism, where the unity of fighters and Peshmerga forces—backed by International Coalition air support—broke the power of terrorism in one of the most significant battles of contemporary history.
