Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani on Sunday attended a memorial ceremony in Erbil marking the anniversary of the February 1, 2004 suicide bombings, one of the deadliest attacks in the region’s modern history. Barzani laid a wreath at the February 1st Martyrs’ Monument alongside officials and victims’ families, honoring those killed in the coordinated attacks that targeted the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) headquarters during Eid al-Adha. The bombings claimed 101 lives, including political leaders, Peshmerga members, and civilians, and are remembered as a pivotal moment that strengthened Kurdish unity and resilience against terrorism.
