Khalid Saido, the quota representative of Ezidis in the Iraqi Parliament, announced that the Directorate of Mass Graves Affairs in Baghdad has expressed its readiness to begin the process of opening all remaining mass graves of Ezidi genocide victims.

According to official figures, nearly 95 mass graves containing the remains of Ezidi victims murdered by ISIS terrorists in Sinjar have been discovered. Of these, 74 graves have already been excavated, and the remains of 857 victims have been recovered.

The Ezidi representative in the Iraqi Parliament stated that following his visit to the Directorate of Mass Graves Affairs in Baghdad, its director, Zaid Abbas, confirmed the institution’s readiness to coordinate with the relevant authorities and initiate the process of exhuming all remaining mass graves in Sinjar.

Regarding the mass graves located in Khanasor and near the Sharafadin Shrine, he explained that the necessary legal procedures must first be completed so that these graves can be opened in the near future.

Nearly 12 years after the Ezidi genocide, more than 270,000 displaced people still remain in 15 camps across the borders of Duhok Governorate and the Independent Administration of Zakho. They continue to hope for an end to the difficult life of displacement under tents and for the opportunity to return once again to their homeland, Sinjar.
