President Masoud Barzani affirmed on Saturday, April 4, 2026, that the Feyli Kurds will forever remain a cherished and integral part of the fabric of the Kurdish people, stressing that it is the duty of the Iraqi state to deliver justice and compensate them for all the suffering and pain caused by the repressive policies of the former regime.
In a statement marking the 46th anniversary of the genocide against the Feyli Kurds, President Barzani described the day as a “sad day” in the history of the Kurdish people, recalling the tragedies and hardships endured by Feyli men and women, including persecution, massacres, and injustice due to their Kurdish identity.
He pointed to the systematic and inhumane policies carried out by the former Iraqi regime, stating that the martyrdom of thousands of young people, the confiscation of identities and official documents, and the deportation of tens of thousands of Feyli Kurdish families were all part of the regime’s crimes against the people of Kurdistan.
President Barzani also paid tribute to the souls of the Feyli Kurdish martyrs and all martyrs of Kurdistan, highlighting the longstanding and recognized role of Feyli fighters in supporting the Kurdish liberation movement throughout history.
He concluded by reaffirming the commitment of the Kurdish people to defend the rights of the Feyli Kurds and emphasized the need to achieve justice and provide redress for their great sacrifices.
