Ezidi Parliamentary Bloc Calls for Sinjar to Be Included in Anti-Corruption Campaign

Sema

The Head of the Ezidi Parliamentary Bloc, Engineer Khalid Saido Azir, announced his full support for the anti-corruption campaign launched by the Iraqi Prime Minister, stressing that Sinjar District is among the areas most severely affected by corrupt practices and the embezzlement of funds allocated for reconstruction.

In his statement, Azir explained that Sinjar continues to endure difficult conditions and has remained classified as a “disaster-stricken area” for the past 12 years. He pointed out that the district’s reconstruction file has remained unresolved since the events of 2014 and has seen no meaningful progress despite the significant budgets allocated for its recovery.

The Head of the Ezidi Bloc added: “Funds have been wasted and embezzled, and there are indications of the involvement of individuals from both inside and outside Sinjar in these cases. The reconstruction process in the district has not been at the required level at all, and the main reason behind this is the widespread corruption.”

Azir also revealed that the names of individuals accused of corruption in Nineveh Governorate have been identified, noting that the relevant authorities have already arrested some of them, while the Iraqi judiciary continues its legal procedures to hold the remaining suspects accountable.

He concluded his statement by saying: “As a representative of the Ezidi community, I reaffirm our full support for the Prime Minister’s campaign to combat corruption and dismantle its networks. We call for the urgent opening of Sinjar-related files in order to deliver justice to the residents and rebuild the city.”
