Sama-affiliated media agencies reported on a statement made by the survivor of the sunken boat off the Italian coast today, Thursday, June 20, 2024, stating that they remained without water and food in the boat for four days.
Roya said in a press statement to news agencies, “When a hole occurred in the boat, the passengers tried to remove the water that had seeped in, but their attempts failed. After ten minutes, the boat sank, and most of the passengers fell into the sea.”
She pointed out, “After about half an hour, the boat floated to the surface of the sea. We asked for help, but no one came, and we remained without water and food for four days.”
Roya explained, “Within those four days, those who remained in the boat were exposed to psychological problems. Some could not bear the hunger and thirst, which led to our numbers decreasing day by day.”
She confirmed, “In the beginning, we were 76 people on the boat, including 27 children and women,” noting that “most of the passengers were Kurds.”
On June 17, Italian media reported that dozens of migrants, including Kurds, drowned in the sinking of two migrant boats in the Mediterranean Sea off the Italian coast.
