Mahma Khalil, a member of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, announced that the Shingal Reconstruction Fund has not yet been implemented and has been turned into a political issue.
Mahma Khalil, a member of the Iraqi Council of Representatives from the Kurdistan Democratic Party faction, told Sama: In the general federal budget bill approved by the Iraqi Council of Ministers, 50 billion dinars were allocated for the reconstruction of Shingal. This amount was at the request of the Yazidis to create a fund in the name of Shingal to rebuild the city.
He also said: The Shingal Reconstruction Fund has only been established in name for the people of the region, it has not yet been implemented, and no work or projects have been carried out in Shingal with it. On the contrary, some other areas have been built with this amount, which is a great injustice to the Yazidis.
On March 23, 2023, the Iraqi Council of Ministers, under the supervision of Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, the Prime Minister of Iraq, met and approved the federal general budget bill for the years 2023, 2024, and 2025, which included an allocation of 50 billion Iraqi dinars for the reconstruction of Shingal.
