In a significant step to ease the challenges faced by displaced families, Vian Dakhil, a spokesperson for the party’s bloc in the Iraqi Parliament, announced on November 11, 2024, that displaced people from Shingal will now be able to obtain their national ID cards in Dohuk. This initiative aims to eliminate the need for displaced individuals to travel back to Sinjar, a journey that has often been difficult and costly.
Dakhil, speaking at a press conference, explained that with the support of the Ministry of Interior, the Kurdistan Regional Government, and Branch 17 of the Kurdistan Democratic Party, a joint team will visit the camps every day to assist displaced citizens. This team, composed of representatives from her office, the Dohuk Displacement and Migration Administration, and the National Card Office, will help process 100 ID applications per day.
“This initiative will make it easier for displaced people to get their IDs without having to travel long distances, saving both time and money,” Dakhil said. She also mentioned that a list of camp names will be posted on the Dohuk Displacement Administration’s website, allowing families to gather and complete the necessary information.
The Director of Displacement and Migration in Dohuk emphasized the importance of this initiative, calling it a critical step toward easing the administrative burdens for displaced families. By providing this service locally, the effort aims to give families a sense of stability and ensure they have the legal documentation they need for their future.
This collaborative effort brings hope to thousands of displaced families, providing them with not just an ID card, but a renewed sense of belonging and dignity.
