A Yazidi member of parliament: We urge for the continued presence of international coalition forces in Shingal

A Yazidi parliamentarian has formally requested that Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani ensure the continued presence of international coalition forces in minority areas, including the Sinjar district.

Mahma Khalil, a member of the Iraqi Council of Representatives, stated that given the challenging and complex situation in the region, it is essential for the Iraqi Prime Minister to maintain the presence of international coalition forces. He emphasized the importance of these forces due to their intelligence capabilities, advanced weaponry, air support, and ability to conduct preemptive strikes against terrorists and their collaborators.

Khalil highlighted that the people of Sinjar, along with other minority groups, suffered genocide at the hands of ISIS terrorists. He pointed out that the wounds of Sinjar remain deep, with the region still reeling from actions such as displacement, killings, kidnappings, and the discovery of mass graves.

The parliamentarian underscored the necessity of international coalition forces to safeguard victims and prevent the recurrence of the 2014 genocide in Sinjar. He further emphasized that the security agreements between Iraq and the international coalition represent a significant achievement for Iraq, the region, and religious minorities. The presence of these forces, he concluded, is crucial for stabilizing Sinjar, as the stability of Sinjar is directly linked to the stability of Nineveh province and all of Iraq.
