On the 20th of this month, the remains of 32 martyrs will arrive from Baghdad to Nineveh province, after being handed over by the forensic department. These martyrs are victims of the massacre committed by ISIS in 2014, where they fell as victims of the terrorism and brutality that targeted the Yazidi people in various regions of Iraq.
A formal reception ceremony will take place at the memorial in Nineveh province at 2:00 PM, with the attendance of several official figures, local leaders, as well as the families of the martyrs and members of the Yazidi community, who share the painful memory of those who sacrificed their lives to preserve their identity and religion. The ceremony will be held with religious prayers, including recitations for the souls of the martyrs, where the attendees will express their deep respect for these pure souls who were martyred defending their land and people.
After the official ceremony, the remains of 19 martyrs from the village of Kocho will be transferred to their village in Sinjar, where they will be buried among their families and loved ones in this village, which was one of the most heavily affected areas during the brutal ISIS massacres. The burial of these martyrs in their homeland will serve as a tribute to them and their memory, and they will be honored in a moment filled with both grief and pride.
As for the other martyrs, they will be buried in other Yazidi areas in Nineveh province, where they will receive farewell and burial ceremonies befitting their greatness and sacrifices. These moments will be filled with sorrow and pain, but they also reflect the strength and resilience of the Yazidi people in facing the challenges and suffering they have endured over the years.
The arrival of these martyrs’ remains to their homeland after years of absence is a step towards achieving justice and providing solace to their families and to the entire Yazidi community, who still carry the memory of the Sinjar massacre and all the crimes committed by ISIS against them. With each martyr buried in their land, the Yazidi people once again prove that they will not forget, and they will not allow the injustice to pass without the sacrifices of these heroes being remembered.
