Iraqi MP Vian Dakhil, spokesperson for the Kurdistan Democratic Party bloc in the Iraqi Parliament, called on the Iraqi government to take immediate action and officially communicate with the new Syrian president, Ahmad al-Shara, urging him to take serious and swift steps to uncover the fate of the Yazidi women abducted by ISIS. She emphasized that Syrian territory still harbors a significant number of girls who have been subjected to horrific crimes.

Dakhil stressed that this humanitarian issue cannot be delayed or postponed, urging for intensified search operations, intelligence cooperation, and the opening of official channels between the federal government, the Kurdistan Regional Government, and the Syrian side to achieve tangible results.

She also praised the significant role played by the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Yazidi Abductees Rescue Office in addressing this issue from the very beginning, through rescue operations, receiving survivors, and providing psychological and social rehabilitation. Dakhil pointed out that the Kurdistan Region played a leading role in these efforts at a time when other parties failed to assume their responsibilities.

Dakhil affirmed that this case is a true test of the new Syrian leadership’s commitment to human rights and justice, calling on the Iraqi government to prioritize this issue in its bilateral relations with Syria and to coordinate with the Kurdistan Regional Government and the international community to ensure the liberation of all the abducted women and put an end to this humanitarian tragedy.
