On the 34th anniversary of the historic 1991 Kurdish Uprising, Kurdistan Region Prime Minister Masrour Barzani extended heartfelt congratulations to the people of Kurdistan, honoring the courage of the Peshmerga forces and the sacrifices of the martyrs who fought for Kurdish freedom.

In his statement shared on social media, Barzani emphasized that the uprising is a defining moment in Kurdistan’s history, one that brought together all Kurdish communities in a united struggle against oppression and occupation. Through unwavering resilience, the Kurdish people freed their homeland from tyranny and established the foundation of self-governance, including the formation of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and its parliament.

“As we remember this monumental revolution, we must stay united to protect the constitutional and legal foundations of the Kurdistan Region,” Barzani stated. “The rights secured through years of struggle, sacrifice, and the blood of our Peshmerga and martyrs must never be given up under any threat or pressure.”

He concluded by reaffirming Kurdistan’s commitment to self-determination and honoring those who lost their lives in the fight for Kurdish freedom, saying, “Glory to the March 1991 uprising. Eternal honor to our martyrs.”
