Sinjar Launches First Comprehensive Digital Services App Developed by Local Tech Talent

Sema

In a move aimed at digitizing public services and making everyday life easier, young programmer Barzan Al-Hababi has launched “Shingal Guide,” the first comprehensive digital platform to document and provide access to medical, commercial, and public services across the northern and southern areas of Mount Sinjar.

The idea for the application emerged from the daily challenges residents face in accessing essential services. Al-Hababi, 32, graduated with a degree in Information Technology (IT) in 2022 and is the author of the book Programming in Dart. He used his academic expertise to develop the digital guide to save residents time and effort while supporting local businesses.

Comprehensive Database

The application features an extensive and regularly updated database covering:

  • Healthcare sector: Doctors, medical centers, pharmacies, and laboratories, including their locations, contact details, and working hours.
  • Commercial and professional sector: Shops, markets, restaurants, car repair workshops, and independent professionals.
  • Easy updates: Business owners can submit their information via WhatsApp or email for verification and free inclusion in the directory.

Challenges and Future Vision

Despite facing several challenges—most notably relying on personal resources and the difficulty of collecting and verifying data from villages and residential complexes across Sinjar—Al-Hababi says his ambitions extend well beyond the current version.

He plans to transform the application into a fully integrated e-commerce platform, allowing local businesses to create their own online stores and showcase their products. The initiative aims to support the local economy and accelerate digital transformation across the Sinjar region.
